Dishwasher Maintenance: Extend Your Appliance Life

A well-maintained dishwasher cleans better, uses less energy, and lasts longer. These maintenance tips apply to all premium brands including Miele, Bosch, and Cove.

Monthly Maintenance

Clean the Filter

Most dishwashers have a removable filter at the bottom:

  • Remove the lower rack
  • Twist and lift the filter assembly
  • Rinse under running water
  • Use a soft brush to remove debris
  • Replace securely
  • Run a Cleaning Cycle

Monthly cleaning removes grease and mineral buildup:

  • Use a dishwasher cleaner or a cup of white vinegar
  • Run on the hottest cycle with an empty dishwasher
  • For stubborn buildup, sprinkle baking soda on the bottom and run again
  • Inspect Spray Arms

Check that spray arm holes are not clogged:

  • Remove spray arms (usually twist off)
  • Clear holes with a toothpick
  • Rinse thoroughly
  • Reinstall
  • Clean Door Gasket and Edges

Food and grime collect on the door edges:

  • Wipe the gasket with a damp cloth
  • Clean around the door edges
  • Check for mold or mildew
  • Quarterly Maintenance

    Check Water Inlet

The water inlet screen can become clogged:

  • Turn off water supply
  • Disconnect inlet hose
  • Clean the screen
  • Reconnect and test
  • Inspect Racks

    • Check for rust spots
    • Look for damaged tines
    • Apply rack repair coating if needed

    Tips for Better Performance

    • Scrape dishes, do not rinse
    • Use the right amount of detergent
    • Run hot water before starting
    • Keep rinse aid filled
    • Use appropriate cycle for load

Regular maintenance ensures your premium dishwasher delivers sparkling results for years.
